To prevent the most catastrophic impacts of climate change, the world must remove carbon dioxide directly from the atmosphere. This is in addition to dramatically reducing current carbon emissions. According to the IPCC, we will need to remove 10 billion tons of carbon dioxide annually by 2050 to limit the rise of global temperatures past 1.5°C. Solving this problem enables the opportunity for a trillion-dollar carbon dioxide removal (CDR) industry.
Holocene removes carbon dioxide from the atmosphere using novel chemistry for direct air capture (DAC). We’re a group of engineers with years of experience leading R&D organizations, commercializing DAC technology, and building climate companies. The company has won several awards, including a student XPRIZE and R&D100 award, and is funded by several grants from programs like Breakthrough Energy Fellows and Innovation Crossroads.
We are looking for Interns to support our development and engineering team on our mission to build our first demonstrator. We value an ability to take ownership, lead with curiosity, and a passion for making an impact on the world.
Responsibilities:
- Work on the 3D design of Holocene’s first demonstrator
- Develop technical drawings for manufacturing and assembly
- Design and build prototypes from ideation to assembly and testing in close collaboration with Holocene’s R&D team
- Support the engineering team in the development of engineering standards and tools
Qualifications & Skills:
- Junior, senior, or recent graduate in mechanical engineering or equivalent
- Passion for mechanical design and for “making things work”
- Experience with computer-aided engineering tools
Bonus Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
- Experience designing, building, and commissioning prototypes
